Ligurian Centre for the History of Ceramic

The Ligurian Center for the History of Ceramics promotes the study and knowledge of ceramics in its various aspects, from the artistic to the archaeological, from the historical to the technological. Annual International Conferences have been organized since 1968, whose timely edited ACTS constitute one of the most important tools at the European level for ceramic studies. The international prestige of the Center is confirmed by the membership in it of European ceramics institutions and a substantial number of Italian and foreign scholars and researchers.

The collection of the Ligurian Center for the History of Ceramics was built up thanks to donations from numerous members (including, in particular, the substantial bequest from Francesco Torterolo) and purchases by the Center itself and consists of 138 pieces, with a predominance of Ligurian material.

Much of the collection is on display, on loan, in the Trucco Museum in Albisola Superiore, while the Savona museum exhibits some Ligurian-made materials that come to complete the picture on Savona ceramics.

‘SEA AND LAND TRADE: THE POTTERY ROUTES’

SAVONA, PRIAMÀR MONUMENTAL COMPLEX (CITY AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM)

The conference focuses on the theme of maritime and land trade and ceramic routes.
The conference sessions will include oral presentations (lasting a maximum of 20 minutes) and written contributions (posters).
Prof. Marco Milanese, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Sassari, is the contact person for the conference theme. There will also be a round table discussion on this theme coordinated by Prof. Fabrizio Benente, Professor of Christian, Late Antique and Medieval Archaeology at the University of Genoa.
There will also be two conference rounds on

Ligurian ceramics over the centuries in the medieval and modern age
New data on ceramic production: regional synthesis, studies and research (replacing the traditional ‘Free Theme’).

Proposals arriving after the indicated date will not be accepted and a selection will be made.

The registration fee for the conference is €30 to be paid before the presentation of the oral papers.
